A Change Is Gonna Come
Damian played this song for me the other day, it's one of my favorite Sam Cooke songs and i hadn't heard it in ages. I couldn't help but start thinking about the upcoming election and how badly I want, we need Obama to win. Damian also shared a little factoid about the song, apparently Sam Cooke wrote the song after hearing Dylan's " Blowing in the Wind ". He was so moved by the song and by the fact that a white man could write such a poignant song about racism in America that he wrote " A Change Is Gonna Come ". As i find myself obsessing about the election with CNN constantly on my computer monitor, I listen to this song and think about the true change this country needs and i think Obama can bring that change. I know it sounds naive but my soul has been stirred and i have in some ways reverted to that girl in high school who kids would call freedom fighter as they rolled their eyes.

computer love
I just got home from watching Wall-E and i must say that my heart is full. Jessica told me i would love it and i do, i really do. Like, it's one of my favorite movies ever kind of love. I cried during the movie and got teary eyed just talking about it with Jessica when i got home. Tomorrow i will call everyone I love and demand that they go see this film. I will beg and plead, because it's just that good. It's a love story! A robot love story! Plus, there is an amazing message which will hopefully make people look beyond there computer screen and text messages. I love life! P.S. watch the trailer!

tarts and gardening, what a perfect saturday...
I bought my first tart pan while i was in Beacon, NY. last week. I couldn't wait to whip something up and here it is. A blueberry, lemon curd tart with graham cracker crust and yummy cream on top. It's an amalgamation of two recipes and some Sarah Fe improvisation.
Many of last years flowers sprouted once again in our tiny garden. Our gardening session was cut short due to an impromptu thunder storm but i was able to get some lovely flower shots.

this is music...
Ten years ago a group of us rented a van and drove from Miami to Atlanta to see one of our favorite bands perform. That band was The verve. One of my all time favorite bands and Richard Ashcroft, easily the most beautiful man to walk the earth. Long story short, they break up and break my heart. Ten years later they get back together and Damian and i have tickets to see them both nights in NYC. We are front row center both nights. They were amazing and Mr. Ashcroft has not aged a bit.

i want it all!
When I'm not wearing your standard New Yorker black, gray and white color pallet, I'm probably in red, navy and white. Stripes and solids, in every combination. I don't think of it as patriotic, maybe Parisian. I am after all the girl dressed in red, white and blue the first time I visited the Eiffel Tower! DORK!

Thats why I'm in love with Marc by Marc Jacobs spring collection. Beautiful, primary color pieces that look like they were plucked off of Anna Karina herself.

Cai Guo-Qiang: I Want to Believe

Please, run on over to the Guggenheim and marvel in Cai Guo-Qiang's , I Want to Believe exhibit. One of the best art shows i've seen all year and the best usage of an art space. Take my word for it, go now! One suggestion, don't try to figure out how he made these pieces come to fruition. It will only make your brain hurt!

martha
Damian and i went to a taping of the Martha Stewart show today. Yes I'm a dork and yes, Damian is a saint for coming along with me. A couple years ago something changed in me and i became obsessed with Martha. I still get excited when i receive my issue of living in the mail every month. The filming was fun, the middle aged women loved us and we went home with an english rose to plant in our garden!

The weather was gorgeous, so we strolled on over to the west village and took some photos with a happy springtime skunk hanging out in the window display of the Marc Jacobs store.

Later we had a Magnolia cupcake, witnessed a near knife fight in the park and saw some guy on the train trying to speed solve a Rubik's Cube while timing himself. It was a wonderful day. The kind of day you could only have in NYC in the springtime.

naive melody
At first i played this song because i felt like i needed a lil bedroom dancing this morning, to get me into a productive, happy beautiful mood. Then i remembered that my friend Steven played this song for his fiance' after proposing to her. I sat down and read the lyrics and couldn't stop crying. Best love song ever
THIS MUST BE THE PLACE (NAIVE MELODY)
TALKING HEADS
Home is where I want to be
Pick me up and turn me round
I feel numb - born with a weak heart
I guess I must be having fun
The less we say about it the better
Make it up as we go along
Feet on the ground
Head in the sky
It's ok I know nothing's wrong . . nothing
Hi yo I got plenty of time
Hi yo you got light in your eyes
And you're standing here beside me
I love the passing of time
Never for money
Always for love
Cover up and say goodnight . . . say goodnight
Home - is where I want to be
But I guess I'm already there
I come home - she lifted up her wings
Guess that this must be the place
I can't tell one from another
Did I find you, or you find me?
There was a time Before we were born
If someone asks, this is where I'll be . . . where I'll be
Hi yo We drift in and out
Hi yo sing into my mouth
Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view
I'm just an animal looking for a home
Share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till I'm dead
Eyes that light up, eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots
Hit me on the head Ah ooh

in a big country, by malia james

This was truly a magical day. Driving through the English countryside with no real destination, looking for inspiration everywhere we turned. I have never seen grass so green or roads more narrow than in England( the later being quite scary ). We took our cameras and shot up a storm. These photos were taken by the lovely Malia James and i think they are gorgeous. I think they are super 60's occult, witchy looking. Thank you Malia for showing me that beautiful photos can be taken on a cloudy day during dusk. You are truly an inspiration.

Foggy London town!

Damian and i are off to London and Yikes!!!! I'm way scared of the British Pound. We've decided to be Bohemian this trip, not spend lots of money and keep record purchases to a minimum. I'm really excited, We are going to spend time with good friends, take tons of photos and even celebrate the wedding of two friends. Life is good...

rock of love craft night...
Last season we all became obsessed with Rock of Love. We decided to start Sunday Rock of Love parties at Michael's apartment . We always make yummy food and play silly games and it's a whole lot of fun. That's a good thing because this season of Rock of Love is a bummer. The girls are terrible and Brett looks bored the whole time. Damian decided to make this Sundays event a craft party! We will be in London for Easter so i brought the Easter crafting!

Craft Owl with a potty mouth by Damian...

Easter craft stuff!

Talking skull dude Damian made...

A surprise for Michael. Why do boys always revert to being 12 years old. It's pretty funny though!

I made little birds nest for the eggs, out of shredded wheat and melted chocolate. I think i did this in kindergarten and still think it's pretty cute. Plus, it's quite tasty.

The Holy Grail of unreleased movie soundtracks

I saw Harold and Maude when i was seventeen and loved it. I watched it a couple years later when i was older and fell in love with it even more. The second time around i fell in love with the soundtrack and started my love affair with Cat Steven's, which lead to Donovan and Chad and Jeremy and all those folky brits. I searched for the soundtrack forever and was only able to get some of the tracks on Cat Steven's "Mona Bone Jakon" record. Sonia surprised me with the newly released harold and maude soundtrack on vinyl for my birthday! It's beautiful and I'm so excited to play it on my record player. Only 2500 were made, so it's extra special!
Best movie ending ever! Best song ever!

yummy valentine
heart shaped croutons for the tomato bisque soup i made for our Valentine's dinner. Yep, super gay...
I'm really proud of these lovely Linzer cookies I made. I originally got the recipe from marthstewart.com and to my dismay they didn't turn out. I think the recipe asked for too much flour, after refrigerating them i couldn't roll these suckers out. I then noticed that the linzer cookie cutter set i had bought came with a recipe. I bought it at this really cute store called Applewares
in Park Slope. This recipe was perfect! I then used black cherry jam for the center. I took some to work the following day and everyone was way impressed!
lovely flowers for me...

let it snow... finally!!!
You must understand! I grew up in Florida, I was in my twenties the first time i ever saw snow. It still makes me way happy. Not the kind that melts the moment it hits the ground. I like the kind that sticks and makes me remember a childhood i never had. ( mine were filled with palm trees and gothic teen years, shielding my skin from the intense Miami sun). The cold was starting to get to me this year and i just wanted some SNOW! I took these while i was running around my neighborhood picking up all the ingredients i needed for my sexy Valentine's meal. I had many moments, froze my fingers and teared up a bit. Gosh, i'm such a gaylord!

could this be true...

4:47 p.m.... goldsoundz
I love this time of day in the winter months. The suns about to set and everything has that golden glow to it and the sky is that shade of blue. We were wandering around Brooklyn close to the water where all the development is going down. We found this hallowed out spot, it looked like a bombed out street in Europe. We were trying to take photos but it was too cold...no gloves. I like the gold halosin certain parts of the photos or maybe i just like thinking about this day...

terrariumtastic!
Joanna came to my birthday celebration bearing one amazing handmade gift. She made me a terrarium made with love. For all you folks out there that don't know what a terrarium is, get with it!
It's a plant which takes up residence in a glass jar or container and you can observe it as much as you want. Mine comes with two little dudes. I felt extra special after joanna told me she stole Matt's change jar for my special lil gift. She said she had been eyeing it for a while.

They are super low maintenance... I spray it once a week and open the lid once and while. I can't wait to try and make one myself. I just have to find that one perfect container. Maybe Damian's change jar...
Check out Joanna's awesome drawing blog here...http://heyrussia.blogspot.com/

If they were me and I was you, Would you have liked a present too...
I love holidays and birthday's and celebrations in general. Not so, when it comes to my birthday celebrations. I feel like my birthday lands in a really strange, broke, partied out pocket of time. Everyone is reflecting on the year past and contemplating on what they can improve in the new year. Plus, you feel a little chubby and your cash flow has stopped flowing. But this is an momentous birthday and i feel like it should be celebrated. When Damian asked me what i wanted to do i said, " I want to have a photo happening. "

Thank you to my friends and Damian for giving me the best birthday ever! Everyone had an amazing time and i think it got some out of the new years funk they found themselves in.

So long...farewell...auf weidersehen goodbye...

I just received my last issue of Blueprint in the mail and It's such a great issue! I know that we've had a month or so to get use to the news but holding the last issue in my hands today really bummed me out. The magazine is laid out so well and it really caters to our age group so well ( even my boyfriend looks forward to it). It made me think of when " My So Called Life" was cancelled back in 95'. Such a great show and ahead of it's time. I was so upset back then and i remember thinking it wasn't given a chance. Remember, they cancelled it right when Angela and Jordan Catalano started dating officially. I think Blueprint Wasn't given a chance and thats that!

This will be our year, took a long time to come...
There's something so fresh and exciting and contemplative about the new year. This brings on the new years resolution. Which is kind of b.s. but if i can keep a couple of them, then i'm improving myself and thats what life is all about. Plus, i love making list.
- Learn my new computer inside and out
- Master photoshop
- Nurture and launch Corta Odio
- Take more photos and acquire more photo equipment
- Keep in touch with family and friends more / write Thank You notes
- Start a fitness regimen ( not super intense )
- Conquer crochet
- Open a Etsy store
- Travel to a new destination
- Appreciate and love Damian even more than i already do
- Listen to more new music like i use to ( the last couple of years i've only been listening to old stuff )
- Use my sewing machine more
I know, It's kind of a tall order but it's all positive.

Christmas 2007

Sonia made our Christmas card this year. I think it's amazing. She found an old photo from a JC Penny's catalog and with the magic of photo shop, the rest is history.

Christmas miami style...Mom's yearly light up nativity scene.

Christmas Dita!

Presents under the tree...

Damian surprised my roommate's and i with the biggest, prettiest christmas tree...

Christmas ginger bread cookies... I like the lil scarf on the one cookie dude...

Best ornament ever... Thank you, Damian...

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!

one man's treasures is another man's...
It's amazing how many cool things New yorkers throw out. These are some of the treasures i've found on the curb.

Cool teal typewriter Damian found in our neighborhood!

Strange lil painted dude we found outside of a Chelsea gallery. I think it's street art, it might be worth a bunch some day.

Huge yellow arrow we found in Chelsea. We had to hail a cab to take this one home. Maybe we can use it for a photo shoot one day!

I always call Damian eagle eyes. He spotted these chairs while we were driving through our neighborhood. They now reside in my living room!
Other things we have found... One night Damian and i found crates of records on the curb in St. Mark's Place. We ended up with 125 lp's... Damian found a whole box of expired polaroid film... mannequins ... All i'm saying is "keep your eyes peeled"!
There are many treasures to be found and people are way too lazy to get rid of things properly.

I left my heart in arizona...
I hate when vacations come to an end. You get use to your new environment and the people around you. Though your ready to go back home you kind of have that feeling you would get on Sunday nights when you were little. Your weekend is over and you have to go back to school. Anyways, thats how it makes me feel. It's ok, I have a feeling i will be having more Arizona adventures in my future.

adventures in pizza making
Another day in amazing, relaxing and warm Arizona.I must admit, I'm a little surprised at how much i like this place. Though i can't seem to get use to getting shocked by everything i touch and the dry air is a little tough on the skin. Today we made pizzas in the stone pizza oven Mr. and Mrs. G. have in the back yard. We got the pizza dough from a local pizzeria, rolled out the dough ourselves and added tons of delicious toppings. I think our pizza was the best... caramelized onions, sundried tomatoes, kalamata olives and a sprinkle of cheese.

Chuck showing off his high school pizza throwing skills.
Honorable mention goes to Nick and Sarah G. for their fig, caramelized onion, gorgonzola pizza.

coyote cup 2007
The Genuardi clan has a Thanksgiving / Arizona tradition called the Coyote cup. It started off as a golf competition and this years has grown to include golf, tennis, thanksgiving dinner and table settings and costumes ( my fave).

I was the official Coyote Cup photographer cause i can't play golf.

Next was the tennis competition. Once again i don't do tennis but i did wear a cute tennis outfit.

Damian catching some air...

We made up some costume points with our impromptu pool side outfits. I'm wearing one of my mom's old dresses which she bought in Jamaica in the early 8o's...amazing!

The Coyote Cup honor went to Catherine.

tofurky day
Damian and i were in charge of the table decorations this year. We decided to make these place cards with everyones initials on them and then tie them to a gourd or corn husk. Everyone was impressed with the table setting and i must thank Martha Stewart's craft line for the stamps and rub on letters.

D is for Damian...

Here they are all ready to go...

The lovely Thanksgiving table...

Joy made these adorable menus...

I made the Tofurky...

The Thanksgiving spread. I had succotash for the first time and have a brand new appreciation for Brussels Sprouts...

Then we enjoyed some fine cognac by the fire...

Then we played some music with the kiddies... What a perfect day...

desert rose
Today we had fun with nature. We took walks in the desert and did some off-roading. Our Mamiya came along for the ride and we took some great photos.

majestic saguaros

Then we drove around the desert and got lost on some steep, winding, mountain roads. We found this area where there had been a desert fire and took some photos with our Mamiya.

My first Arizona sunset. Damian's parents said it wasn't a good one but i thought she was just fine...

Arizona Vacation....
Damian's parents were nice enough to invite me to spend Thanksgiving with the family in Arizona. I had never been to Arizona and was way excited. This week in NYC was the coldest so far this winter and i was more than happy to flee the gloomy cold weather and embrace the warm, dry, desert air. First impressions of Arizona... dry, warm, blue skies, rocks, mountains and cacti everywhere. Being a native Floridian, i get such a kick out of the west coast. Miami is so flat, if you see a hill, It's probably made out of garbage. Yep, Arizona is quite beautiful. Plus, swimming in a outdoor pool in November is priceless.

you say tomato...
These are the last of our "little shop of horrors" tomatoes. Seriously, we bought this tiny tomato plant to see what would happen and it's been giving us and our friends lovely tomatoes all summer long. It grew so big and became a bully in our garden, trying to steal all the sunshine and soil from the other plants. We picked these off last week. It was starting to get too cold for the little guys. I'm going to make a big batch of yummy tomato sauce with these. I picked some off the plant this morning, resilient little suckers!

Could this song and video be more Amazing?! All that running around and those great outfits! Then there's Michael Hutchinson. He's the first boy who made my insides tingle when i was a little girl. I remember it well, it was the "Need You Tonight" video and i had never seen anyone like him, Slithering with his long hair. Anyways, watch this video and enjoy.

protect ya neck...
Last winter i walked into this really cute store in my neighborhood and saw these cute knitted neck warmers. The price tag wasn't really cute, they were $65.00! So i decided to knit some up myself. I've been knitting them up for all my girlfriends and they love them. I think they come in handy, sometimes you don't want to wear a scarf and these look great under a jacket and can even enhance your outfit, plus , they really keep your neck warm.

I will take a better picture of them later. I was just out the door when i took this one.
P.S.
I took this photo with photo booth feature on my new lovely 24" Imac! I am truly in love with this machine!

Everyday is halloween
Damian and i take Halloween seriously and think its a whole lot of fun.
Costume #1
Dorothy and a Dj Nerd for the Maritime on Saturday.

Costume #2
Damian made this skull mask out of paper mache and we wore it while we gave out candy
to the kiddies in the neighborhood.

Costume #3
This was our Halloween costumes. Day of the Dead novios and i think we pulled it off quite nicely! Damian made the little paper mache skulls we wore around our necks and i made my veil and found the wedding dress at the salvation army on bedford. I thought it would be a nightmare trying to find a gown and found this one right away and it fit perfect. The costume was a hit at the parade and also a hit with the japanese tourist.

She's lost control again...
I read " Touching From a Distance" last year and was disappointed. I vowed not to read anymore bios on musicians i love. They should be shrouded in mystery and i don't want to know what they ate for breakfast. Since then i have broken my vow, i cant seem to stop reading a good rock n' roll bio from time to time. Anyways, in the book he's portrayed as a bad husband, father and I'm sure he was but the book came across a little one sided. For years i have been anticipating the release of Control, directed by Mr. Anton Corbijn (amazing photographer and video director). It was amazing and i advise anyone reading this to go see it tonight, it's playing at Film Forum here in the city. Every moment of this film is a beautiful black and white photograph and the actors are dead on. All I'm going to say is that the film made him out to be more of a human being, totally flawed but a little more human. Please go see it!

These are some movie stills i took during the movie. I couldn't help it, i was in love with every image i saw.

sprout home...
My new favorite plant store is Sprout Home, a lovely store in
Williamsburg. Last time i was there i saw this lil succulent plant and had to have it. They call them Living Stones, they are really called Lithops. I thought they were adorable, a combination of alien brains and butts. I was so proud of them and showed them off to all my friends when i got home. To my surprise, my friends found them repulsive! I love my new plant all the same.

P.S.
Don't water these lil dudes. Only spritz from time to time...

Panic on the streets of NYC...
When i woke up this morning, it felt like Christmas! I was going to see Morrissey tonight with the people i love most in the world. This would be my third time seeing Mr.Mozzer (first time being in 1997). Every time I've seen Morrissey, I've managed to get to the front row and this would not be any different. I warned my boyfriend that i would not be the same girl he knows once Morrissey walks on stage. I will become a screaming, aggressive, crying, mess of a girl. The opening act was obnoxious and i wont get into that. Morrissey was as amazing as ever and did a bunch of Smiths songs! His new band was also amazing, even though i was a bit upset when i learned that Gary Day was no longer touring with him. I've had a crush on him since 1992. When Morrisey sang "please please please let me get what i want" there wasnt a dry eye in the house.

LCD Soundsystem and Arcade Fire at Randalls Island...
I would pay tithing, baptize my first child to, worship on sundays, the church of the Arcade Fire. I am a convert. Seeing them live was a religious experience. I knew i was in for a treat and ended up being blown away. Eleven happy Canadians singing and playing their little hearts out for us. The visuals, the performance, simply amazing. Please purchase a ticket and go see Arcade Fire whenever the chance may arise.
P.S.
LCD Soundsystem was also great!

London loves...
Damian and i decided it was time for a proper vacation. We decided on London and Paris. They are now two of my favorite cities. I find myself in a post European vacation depression and not even Nutella is making it go away.

Me and my first passport stamp!

Notting Hill, which is so clean and picturesque that you feel like you are in a movie studio. You seriously smell roses when you walk down the street.

Plus, Rough Trade is down the street from where we were staying. Here's my photo opt!

Birthday part 1.
Birthday part 2.
Our second stop was The Butterfly exhibit at The Natural History Museum. We learned all you need to know about butterflies and found ourselves in some butterfly trance. We literally had to be kicked out of the exhibit. My hair fell victim to the humid room and Damian found out he has a flare for nature photography.

Niagagra bummer!

On Saturday night Sonia and i were having one of our photobooth nights. We went to Otto's Shrunken Head and lakeside louge. When we arrived at Niagara, we wxpected to see the trusty three photo strip booth. Instead we saw one of those digital booths in it's place! Our smiles became frowns and we left with our tails between our legs.
It's a T.R.L. New Years Eve...

Damian got an invite to ring in the new year with A.F.I. at the T.R.L studios in Times Square. We thought about it for a sec and said YES! It ended up being a fabulous night, filled with free drinks and gaudy gold decorations. Anyways, now i can say i've spent a new years eve in Times Square!

This is the view from the greenroom...

We actually took photos in the T.R.L. photo booth...

New Jersey...
We tagged along with the boys to their show in Jersey. Apparently the venue is haunted, good Halloween fun!

Crazy Train...
Jessica and I decided to leave Annex early and couldn't flag down any cabs. We decided to take the F train home. Little did we know that it would take three hours to get home. The F train became the blue line and a very drunk Jessica and a very sober Sarah Fe did not notice until we were the far depths of Brooklyn. The Ralph stop to be exact. It ended up being more fun than the club. Plus, Donnie Drunko (Jessica) and I met a really rad boy named Daniel and became instant friends. An incredible photo session insued!
